Thompson Thrift, the real-estate developers with a penchant for commercial and residential projects across the nation, broke ground on a mixed-use development dubbed The Gilmore, as per an announcement made by the city of Gilbert. As of April 30, The Gilmore promises to become a new social and commercial hub within the community, consisting of 35-acres on the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Germann Road.
With around 200,000 square feet earmarked for grocery, restaurant, and retail space, The Gilmore also plans to house 300 luxury apartment homes and an accompanying hotel. Over 25 leases have already been confirmed including popular names like Safeway, encompassing a 64,000-square-foot space. According to Ashlee Boyd, Thompson Thrift Commercial's managing partner, "The Gilmore's groundbreaking is an exciting milestone that brings our vision one step closer to reality." This development appears to reflect an integration of residential, retail and public spaces aimed at catering to the community's growing needs, as per the Gilbert Town Hall.
Gilbert Mayor Scott Anderson expressed pride in collaborating with Thompson Thrift on a project that is intended to offer not only dynamic retail and premier housing but also captures the essence of connection and innovation reminiscent of Gilbert. "The Gilmore will be a shining example of the thoughtful, community-focused developments we welcome here in Gilbert," Anderson affirmed in a statement, detailed by the Gilbert Town Hall.
In terms of living arrangements, The Residences at The Gilmore offer a selection of studios, and one- to three-bedroom apartments, with each averaging about 1,000 square feet. The design features of the locale were conceptualized with community dynamics in mind; from the Main Street-style entrance to covered walkways and common areas meant to invoke a spirit of togetherness. Local artists contributions and green spaces are intended to bolster this atmosphere. Andrew Call, who serves as Thompson Thrift’s vice president of development for the Southwest region, told the city of Gilbert, "At its core, The Gilmore is about connection—between people, places, and purpose."
As for the timeline, retailers could commence business operations in the latter half of 2026, followed by the first wave of residents expected to move in at the beginning of 2027. The development as a whole is poised to transform the area into a bustling, integrated community that serves as a new landmark within Gilbert. This recent groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of this ambitious project's journey from blueprint to brick-and-mortar reality.
