Gloria Estefan, Miami’s beloved music icon, just released her much-awaited Spanish-language album titled "Raíces," an infusion of sentimental tracks harking back to her Cuban roots. The album drop was marked with a red carpet event in Miami's Design District last night, drawing in a host of friends and family alongside fans eager to immerly get absorbed into the nine-time Grammy winner’s latest work. WSVN reports that Gloria celebrated her first album in two decades, expressing her joy and extending gratitude for the unwavering fan support.
The album "Raíces," which translates to "roots," is largely penned by Gloria’s husband and longtime collaborator, Emilio Estefan. It serves as a series of love letters he composed for her to sing, bringing a personal touch to the music that's evident throughout the collection of tracks. "I wanted to do something that has a little bit of – but do something a little bit something new," Emilio told WSVN. The album is not just a trip down memory lane for Gloria but also an ode to Latin music and traditions, with songs like "La Vecina," "Sasha’s Song," and "Te Juro" offering a range of emotions from elation to introspection.
Reflecting on her origins and the album's intent, Gloria looked to inspire not just her listeners but specifically the immigrant community. She highlighted the significant but often underappreciated contributions of immigrants to the fabric of the nation. "Their contributions aren't ever really, you know, held for what they are, which is a lot because this country is built on immigrants. I just wanted to put positivity and love out there into the universe," Gloria explained in an interview with CBS News Miami.
Even after an illustrious career spanning multiple decades, Gloria openly cherishes the bond she shares with her fans. "Are you kidding me? There's nothing like it, and people will say 'I just want to hug you' and when they put their arms around me, they say these beautiful things. 'I feel like you're my family. I feel like you're my tia or my grandma or, you know, my mom, my sister.' It's a beautiful, beautiful thing," she delightedly shared with CBS News Miami. Aside from her musical endeavors, Estefan is also actively working on a Broadway production named "Basura" with her daughter Emily and lending her talents to a children's TV show titled "Gaby's Dollhouse," set to release this fall.
Fans can expect to see more of Gloria Estefan's multifaceted artistic work in the coming year, with her album "Raíces" now available and her Broadway musical "Basura" slated for a 2026 debut.
