Joshua Salem Simpson, 33, was arrested in West Palm Beach and faces two counts of occupied-dwelling burglary, aggravated stalking and exposure of sexual organs, according to CBS12 and the West Palm Beach Police Department.
Police allege that Simpson repeatedly appeared at a woman’s apartment, looked through windows and engaged in sexually explicit conduct outside the residence. The woman told investigators she did not know him and provided video that police said documented some of the encounters, CBS12 reported. Investigators also alleged that he returned to the property, damaged a doorbell camera and tried to enter the apartment.
Two separate forms of protection
The criminal charges and a request for a stalking injunction are separate legal matters. The criminal case concerns allegations that prosecutors would have to pursue in court; an injunction is a civil protection intended to restrict contact or conduct. The Palm Beach County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller says its Domestic Violence Department assists petitioners seeking injunctions for protection against stalking and other forms of violence.
The clerk’s guidance says that when a temporary stalking injunction is issued—or when a temporary injunction is denied but a hearing is granted—a hearing on whether a final injunction is warranted will be held within 15 days, according to the Palm Beach County Clerk. That process provides a protection option but does not determine whether Simpson is guilty of the criminal charges.
