A Guatemalan national has once again found himself ensnared within the U.S. judicial system, according to a recent indictment. Federal court documents in Boston reveal that 43-year-old William Noel Mazariegos Lopez faces charges of unlawful reentry after having been deported from the country. This pattern of returns and removals appears chronic, with Lopez having to now confront the possibility of a 20-year prison sentence, a fine up to $250,000, and subsequent deportation.
Mazariegos Lopez's history with U.S. authorities is a tangled narrative of migration and misdemeanors. Following a conviction for liquor-related driving offenses in 2012 and deportation proceedings initiated in 2017, Lopez was subsequently removed from the U.S. Nevertheless, he managed to eventually come back. The U.S. Attorney's Office detailed that after his second removal in May 2018, Lopez once more reentered the country without authorization before being detected by immigration authorities in August 2021 after an unrelated arrest.
