A Mother's Day dinner at J. Alexander’s restaurant in Cordova turned into a scene of panic when a gun was brandished during a fight, Memphis police confirm. The incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, when officers responded to an aggravated assault call at the eatery on North Germantown Parkway. WREG reports that the confrontation started when a man, described to be the ex-boyfriend of another diner's daughter, confronted her at the restaurant with a gun visible at his side.
According to the victim, who relayed her account to the Memphis Police Department, the suspect commanded her to "get back" prior the altercation commencing. Attempting to defuse the situation, another diner was met with the point of a gun at his stomach and thus was told to get out of the way, as reported by Action News 5.
The cafeteria-style chaos escalated when a second suspect, a female, became involved. She reportedly punched another woman who had tried to intervene in the fracas. FOX13 spoke with a guest, Judy Lee, who detailed the harrowing experience: "Next thing you know, they were telling us to get under the table," adding, "So everybody here was under the tables."
Both suspects are said to have fled from the scene in a purple Lexus SUV bearing Tennessee temporary tags, leaving behind a shaken room filled with diners seeking cover. Despite the potential for tragedy, the Memphis Police Department stated no injuries were sustained amid the Mother's Day mayhem, as all parties declined medical attention. A witness took to Facebook Live, providing a recount of the ordeal and claiming their group continued to enjoy an "amazing" evening post-fisticuffs, WREG reports.
