Over the weekend, a conflict erupted involving gunfire in a parking lot on Southeast 122nd Avenue in Portland, leading to a car chase, an arrest, and the seizure of multiple firearms. Yesterday morning, Portland Police Officers, including the K9 unit, rushed to the scene after reports of shots fired. There, they encountered two men, one of whom immediately surrendered and was detained as officers seized his handgun, as per the City of Portland's report.
The second individual, however, initiated a dramatic escape. Driving a white Jeep Cherokee, he stopped briefly for the police before fleeing, triggering a pursuit. A tactical maneuver by the police brought the vehicle to a halt at Southeast 119th Avenue and Southeast Clinton Street. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after in the 2400 block of Southeast 117th Avenue.
Upon further investigation by detectives from the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), it was determined that both men were armed at the time of the altercation, pointing guns at each other. This investigation also led to the retrieval of a shotgun associated with the incident. Lamariea A. Taylor, 28, was charged with multiple offenses, including attempts to elude the police both by vehicle and on foot, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
The other individual involved in the incident was released after being interviewed on site. The ECST urges anyone with information about this case to come forward and has provided an email address where tips can be sent.
