A somber occurrence unfolded in Iredell County as a 70-year-old man was taken into custody after supposedly confessing to the murder of his wife in their Harmony home. According to the WBTV report, Bobby Lee Collins made a 911 call just before 8:15 a.m. yesterday, claiming to have shot his wife and revealing his location to authorities.

Shortly after his call, deputies apprehended Collins at the intersection of Powell Bridge Road and Harmony Highway -- about two miles from the house where the alleged crime occurred. As recounted by the WCNC coverage, Iona Collins, the suspect's wife, was found dead at their home from a gunshot wound.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office mobilized its Homicide Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Investigators to the scene, securing and combing the premises for evidence. "Numerous items of evidence were seized," Sheriff Darren Campbell mentioned in a statement obtained by Iredell Free News. The suspect was brought to the sheriff's office for an interview and has since been charged with murder.
