The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has officially appointed Harvey Castellano as the Dean of the University Library, a position he briefly held on an interim basis since last year. As reported by UTEP Newsfeed, Castellano has been a part of the UTEP library system since 1997, contributing his extensive experience and leadership skills to the role for nearly three decades.
"Harvey is a wise, committed, and mission-centered leader who has served UTEP exceedingly well," expressed John Wiebe, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs, as obtained by UTEP Newsfeed. Wiebe looks forward to further collaboration with Castellano to actively equip faculty, students, and other library patrons with the necessary resources and support for their research and educational pursuits.
A UTEP alum, with a master's degree from the University of North Texas, Castellano was the associate library director for research, instruction, and discovery services before stepping up as interim dean in 2024. During his tenure, he is credited with having quickly accelerated the availability of digital resources and introducing a new model of access service. This overhaul not only transformed library subject research specialists into active learning facilitators but also increased their engagement with students and faculty, as UTEP Newsfeed details.
