The city of Hogansville is currently on high alert during an ongoing manhunt for 30-year-old Jarmmal Cox, wanted for several charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding, this troubling development comes following a series of events involving a police vehicle hit, a car chase, and a hostage situation with an infant, according to Hogansville Police Department.
Authorities were first summoned to the scene last Friday night in response to reports of a dispute with potential gunfire in the 500 block of Lawrenceville Street. A suspect – now identified as Cox – hit a patrol car with his Jeep, initiating a chase which culminated in him fleeing on foot after a crash near Dickinson Street and Green Avenue, as detailed by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Later developments led law enforcement to a residence on the same street where Cox allegedly took refuge, reportedly armed, and with a small infant as a hostage, creating a tense standoff with SWAT units from Coweta County Sheriff's Office and Fulton County Police Department – these units took precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the child, reports 11Alive. Hogansville Police Department stated that after "repeated efforts to negotiate a peaceful surrender" the SWAT teams eventually penetrated the residence fortunately finding the infant safe; however Cox had managed to make his escape before the authorities entered, further accelerating the urgency of the manhunt as he remains at large and is considered a significant threat to public safety.
