Hollywood has launched a new environmentally focused initiative that combines sustainability with tourism. In partnership with Ocean Rescue Alliance International, the city has announced plans for a snorkel-friendly artificial reef called "Guardians of the Reef," according to WSVN.

The project, described by City Commissioner Adam Gruber in a statement obtained by WSVN, aims for "reef restoration, create marine habitat and invite people for ecotourism." Boasting over 50 unique structures, the reef will be an underwater array of science, art, and sustainability. Walking along the shores of Hollywood Beach, one will soon find the ocean enriched with 12 custom-designed sculptures and 38 habitat modules.

Sky 10 recorded the initial delivery of the reef structures, with footage aired on Local 10 News, marking a potential milestone in the city’s efforts to advance ecological tourism. The initiative is taking shape off the coast of North Beach Park, marking it as South Florida's first snorkel-friendly artificial reef system. An additional array of structures is scheduled for deployment in the waters near Harry Berry Park and Keating Park.

Once completed, the reef is expected to serve as an underwater habitat that attracts both marine life and visitors, contributing to environmental research as well as public engagement in marine conservation.
