Herzog Contracting Corp. and the Missouri Department of Transportation are scheduled to begin a project that will affect traffic in Holt County. According to MoDOT, the northbound Interstate 29 ramp to U.S. Route 59 (Exit 67) will be closed starting tomorrow for resurfacing. The ramp will be inaccessible during daytime hours while work is underway. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
Those detours might just give you some extra time to reflect on the day or catch up on that podcast or two because the only thing passing through that section of I-29 will be construction vehicles and tons of fresh asphalt. And, if weather decides to throw a tantrum, plans could shift because as MoDOT clearly puts it, "All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change."
While the inconvenience is temporary, the benefits of smoother roads are long-term, and let's face it, nobody likes to weave around potholes or feel their coffee jump out of the cup because of rough surfaces, MoDOT reminds drivers "to work with us by always buckling up, keeping your phone down, slowing down and moving over in work zones," this is non-negotiable not just for your safety but for those who are out there making the commute better for all of us, and even though it might not feel like it as you reroute your trip to work, this is infrastructure love in action.
