Today, the 19th Annual Houston Firefighters' Charity Golf Classic began with over 100 participants taking part in the event. Active and retired members of the Houston Fire Department (HFD), along with community supporters and department affiliates, gathered at Pine Forest Country Club to participate. The tournament, which began at 9 a.m., continued into the early afternoon with an awards ceremony following the competition. Proceeds from the event will support a key local initiative, as reported by the City of Houston.
The golf classic, a long-standing community event, aims to raise funds for the Houston Firefighters' Protection Fund (HFPF). Established in 2006, the HFPF provides financial support to HFD firefighters and their families in times of need, offering assistance for long-term hospital stays or medical treatments resulting from injuries or illnesses sustained in the line of duty. The fund ensures that help is delivered directly to members through the Firefighters' Support Network when needed.
Event organizers have stated that the charity is supported by the generosity of its donors, with the golf tournament being one of the main fundraising events, alongside other private contributions. The funds raised are given directly to the affected families, without restrictions, enabling them to cover unexpected expenses following a minimum three-day hospital stay in whatever way best suits their needs.
For those unable to attend the event at Pine Forest Country Club, located at 18003 Clay Rd, there is an opportunity to contribute directly to the Houston Firefighters' Protection Fund. Whether as a company or an individual, donations can be made through the fund’s official page, providing support to the families of Houston firefighters in need.
