It was an impressive feat for Houston High School’s Class of 2025, which raised the bar by securing a whopping $57 million in scholarships, a new record for the institution. The commencement ceremony, held last Friday, witnessed an outpouring of elation from families, peers, and staff as the graduates prepared to venture into their next phase armed with ample financial support and distinction.
The collective brilliance of these students is evident in their national recognition for academic prowess, leadership, and contributions to the community. According to the news released by the City of Germantown, two students, Jakob Mosbruger and Colby Shelton, snagged ROTC Scholarships, and the QuestBridge program matched three students to elite colleges with full scholarships: Fatima Hernandez to Bowdoin College, Lauryn Bonds to the University of Pennsylvania, and Abigail Paz to Emory University. This year’s CTE Presidential Scholar Award nominees included Francis Anyanwu and Jason Le. At the same time, Niyantha Kaushik and Christina Park were nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program in General Academics.
Furthermore, Bennett Braithwait, Wesley Lim, and Matthew McDonald were heralded as ACT Presidential Scholars, an accolade celebrating scholastic and civic achievements. Lillian Wu also earned the prestigious spot of Presidential Scholar Semifinalist. The roster of achievers continued with nine students, such as Niyantha Kaushik and Mia Mittag, earning the title of National Merit Semifinalists, and another nine, like Truman May, garnering commendations. Tennessee's own Ned McWherter Scholarship recognized eight from Houston High School for exceptional academic merit, listing students including Lydia Maxwell and Nipun Rajan.
