Heads up, drivers: If you're planning a late-night drive on the I-10 Westbound in the Acadia Parish area, specifically around Exit 87 - LA 35 (Church Point, Rayne), you'll need to reroute. According to a recent announcement by Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, some closures are set to take place that'll affect your travel.
The I-10 Westbound Entrance and Exit ramps at Exit 87 will be closed from Thursday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m. until Friday, May 2 at 6:00 a.m., and then again on several subsequent nights including new dates extending the operations these closures are in place to allow construction crews to carry out milling and paving operations critical to the roadway's maintenance and safety, as reported by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
Moving west on I-10? You won't be able to take the exit for LA 35 during the closure times but a detour route is available, it directs you to continue to Exit 82 - LA 1111 (East Crowley), turn south on LA 1111, and double back via I-10 Eastbound to Exit 87, as per the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development instructions. Similarly, those looking to hop on I-10 Westbound from LA 35 will be guided to take I-10 east to Exit 92, then north on LA 95, and back on to I-10 Westbound.
It's important to note that even emergency vehicles can’t use the on and off-ramps at Exit 87 during the closure. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says detour signs will be clearly posted. They understand the inconvenience but ask drivers to be patient and careful, especially with workers and heavy equipment in the area.
