Travelers heaved a sigh of relief as I-55 northbound lanes near milepost 4 resumed their never-ending cycle of rubber and asphalt following a closure that snarled traffic and tested the patience of motorists in the area. According to a social media update from the St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, the road opened back up, allowing vehicles to trickle through the interstate's veins once more.
The initial alert from the SJSO indicated that both lanes were in the clutches of an incident that required their closure, not merely a pause but a full stop on the thoroughfare that connects lives and livelihoods. It was suggested that those enmeshed in the web of I-10 to I-55 northbound should divert through exit 209 in LaPlace, finding solace in the less-trodden path of Old US Highway 51, a detour that, while perhaps not as swift as the mainstay interstate, offered a continuation of movement, of travel, of the journey, while the main route lay in enforced stillness.
