A tragic aviation incident occurred in Ohio's Ashland County, yesterday evening, when a small plane piloted by a 72-year-old Indiana man crashed into a wooded area. Gary Wolfelt, the pilot, was reported to have been the sole occupant of the single-engine aircraft when it went down near State Road 89 and Township Road 902. According to a statement obtained by FOX59, the crash took place around 7:40 p.m., the repercussions of which were fatal for Wolfelt.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after the incident, as confirmed by numerous reports, including one from News 5 Cleveland. The Ashland County Sheriff's Office declared the pilot deceased at the location of the crash, and no additional casualties were reported. The aircraft, identified as an Express 2000 FT, now lies dormant, tangled amidst the timber, a silent witness to the abrupt end of a voyage and, perhaps, the dreams it carried aloft.
Troopers are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. While the authorities have not yet provided specific details on the cause, they are meticulously piecing together the fragments of evidence that remain. As reported by Cleveland 19 News, this process is ongoing and it is unclear when more information will become available to the public.
