An early morning crash today involving an IndyGo bus has left the driver with injuries, as reported by multiple sources. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:54 a.m. in the area of S Emerson Avenue and Todd Road. FOX59/CBS4 conveyed that the bus driver was "awake and breathing" but suffering from pain after the single vehicle crash, where the bus hit a guardrail and stopped.
News 8 provided further details collected from the scene by photojournalist Memo Lithgow. It seemed that the bus swerved and hit a bridge barrier on Todd Road before overcorrecting and coming to rest on the median. Lithgow reported that the bus sustained noticeable damage with cracked windows on the front driver side and dislodged panels. A tow truck was dispatched and cleared the bus from the median by approximately 8:45 a.m., as per WISHTV News 8. Their report indicated that no passengers were on board at the time of the accident.
No other vehicles were implicated in the unfortunate event, and official statements from IndyGo confirmed there were no passenger injuries. The driver's condition necessitated a trip to Eskenazi Hospital, with police closing both directions of South Emerson Avenue in the vicinity of the crash until after 9 a.m. The details surrounding the cause of the crash remain under investigation by IMPD, as WTHR 13News reported from the scene.
As of the publishing of these reports, official channels have yet to release updates on the driver's condition or any potential leads on what precipitated the incident.
