Norfolk Southern has temporarily closed the railroad crossing on University Parkway at West State of Franklin Road for essential track maintenance. According to a release from Johnson City's official website, the closure will start May 27 and is expected to last through May 29, or until the work is completed.
With the crossing off-limits, Norfolk Southern will reroute trains. To efficiently use the downtime, Public Works crews will dive in to tackle maintenance chores near the tracks. The timing could be apt, but this means the area will be cut off to all traffic, including emergency services. Drivers should anticipate delays, exercise caution around the work zones, and stick to the posted speed limits for safety.
The advisory highlights that the entire section of the road will be inaccessible during this period. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to bypass the closure and to plan their journeys to avoid being caught in the expected traffic snarls.
