Kingsport Parks & Recreation Department is collaborating with Sullivan County Animal Shelter for a special gathering, Bark and Belong. Folks looking to expand their family with a four-legged friend are invited to this event, slated for May 17, at Dogwood Park.

The initiative, a blend of community service and animal welfare, aims to bring adoption opportunities to the doorstep of prospective dog owners. Starting at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at 800 Granby Road, there will be adoptable dogs ready to meet and charm potential adopters. According to a statement obtained by the website for the City of Kingsport, the shelter staff will be present, offering valuable insights into the adoption process. Program Administrator Laura Williams remarked on the occasion, stating, "If you’re ready to adopt a dog or just thinking about adoption, this is the perfect opportunity to come out to Dogwood Park, talk to shelter staff and maybe go home with a new best friend."

The event also serves as an open forum for discussions on animal care and the adoption process. Despite no admission fee, Kingsport Parks and Recreation is requesting that attendees register beforehand to gauge the prospective crowd size.
