Over a year has passed since the murder of Chris Hill, a 51-year-old plumber, in Knoxville, yet the case remains unsolved. The Knoxville Police Department has recently reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing investigation of this apparent targeted killing. In a social media post, they have reiterated the sequence of events.
On December 13, 2023, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Hill was found by responding KPD officers at 218 E. Depot Avenue, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, he did not survive the attack. Earlier that morning, detectives learned, a gray Toyota 4Runner was reported stolen somewhere in West Knoxville—a vehicle that would later turn out to play a crucial role in the ambush of Hill. The stolen car was caught on surveillance footage intensively circling the area where Hill was working before following him to his final destination.
Homicide Unit detectives pieced together a chilling narrative. "The 4Runner followed Hill once he left Boright Drive and drove to E. Depot Avenue," detailed the Knoxville Police Department. Upon his arrival and shortly after exiting his truck, Hill was shot by an unknown assailant who promptly fled in the 4Runner, which was found abandoned later on. Despite the passage of time and meticulous investigation, the police have yet to apprehend any suspects.
The Department is still actively pursuing leads and encourages anyone with information to make contact—anonymous tips included. They urge citizens to reach directly out to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Informants could stand to receive a reward of up to $2,000.
