The Georgia Department of Corrections has named Lachaka McKenzie as the new Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Central State Prison, a promotion effective today. McKenzie, who brings two decades of experience to her new role, will now oversee crucial rehabilitative services for inmates, including educational programs, health care, library services, counseling, recreational activities, and mental health care.
Commissioner Tyrone Oliver praised McKenzie's dedication and work ethic in a statement obtained by the Georgia Department of Corrections. "Lachaka has been a devoted team member for twenty years and has consistently displayed a strong work ethic," he affirmed. Despite her extensive background and proven track record, it's her strong ethical commitment to rehabilitative justice that stands out, says the commissioner.
McKenzie's correctional career began at Macon State Prison as a Correctional Officer in 2005, followed by a promotion to Counselor at Dooly State Prison two years later. Her trajectory has been marked by a succession of promotions: a return to Macon SP as a Counselor in 2010, where she later rose to Chief Counselor and then Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment.
Before her latest appointment, McKenzie served as a Unit Manager at Central State Prison since 2023. Her educational accolades include a Bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University and a Master’s from the University of Phoenix. McKenzie is also a certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor and has undergone extensive departmental training, as revealed by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Her certifications and trainings range include, Basic Correctional Officer Training, the Addiction Certification Program, and specialized training for her new role as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment.
