A standoff in Lake Havasu City came to a deadly end when SWAT team members fatally shot 38-year-old Case Taylor Chrouser after he fired upon them, as confirmed by local authorities. This incident followed an attempted follow-up to a previous domestic violence situation involving Chrouser. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Mohave County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the residence on May 18, believing that Chrouser, wanted on several felony charges including aggravated assault, was inside.
MCSO SWAT teams, along with Lake Havasu City Police Department, initiated negotiations to coax Chrouser out without conflict, but were met with silence. The situation quickly became tense, as Chrouser was observed peeking through the windows. Despite several hours of attempted communication, and after deploying gas into the residence, authorities needed to quickly figure out alternative strategies as Chrouser continued to not respond. 12 News reported that the SWAT team then breached the home where Chrouser was believed to be barricaded in a bathroom.
Further attempts to get Chrouser to surrender included the deployment of additional gas and the use of a camera to visually assess his position. What unfolded next was captured by the camera when Chrouser armed himself and aimed a handgun towards the door. MCSO's statement detailed that when the bathroom door opened, and Chrouser began firing at SWAT members, they returned fire, striking him. Medical personnel were immediately called to the scene. However, Chrouser was pronounced dead upon their arrival, with no reported injuries to law enforcement officers.
