The Oregon DMV has announced that the Lakeview office located at 855 South F St. will take a brief hiatus on May 22-23 for what's described as routine facility maintenance. According to Oregon Department of Transportation announcements, the aim is to "better serve our customers" and the doors will reopen on May 27, following the Memorial Day closure.
For those needing DMV services during the two-day window, the neighboring Klamath Falls office at 1909 Austin St. continues operations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alternatively, services remain at one's fingertips online via DMV2U, at DMV Express kiosks, or through the tangible means of phone and mail. Post maintenance, business as usual will resume for the Lakeview DMV with its standard hours, which are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday; and a daily intermission from 12:30-2 p.m. The official advice is to always check the status of a DMV office before making a trip.
With the REAL ID enforcement deadline inching closer, the DMV expects a surge in visitors and warns of potential long lines and wait times. "Expect longer lines and longer wait times than normal," reads the caution from the bulletin. Those planning air travel within the U.S. need to ensure they have a REAL ID-compliant form of identification if they don't possess a valid passport or other federally accepted forms of ID. The DMV emphasizes the three-week duration for receiving your REAL ID in the mail, urging travelers to plan ahead.
It's important to note that REAL IDs are only required for those 18 and older who plan to fly domestically without a valid passport or alternative federally accepted identification. For those not intending to take to the skies shortly, the DMV suggests holding off on the REAL ID and waiting until the time for your credential renewal draws nigh.
