Drivers planning to travel along I-10 between Lafayette and St. Martin Parish should prepare for upcoming alternating lane closures. According to an announcement by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), these closures are scheduled for street sweeping operations.
Motoring through the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge from Exit 103 to Mile Marker 117.5 is set to be impacted next starting Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the sweeping operation will run through next Thursday at 6:00 a.m., with the sequence repeating itself on Thursday and Friday nights. Given that all permit and oversize loads and emergency vehicles will still be allowed passage, though they may encounter some delays, DOTD has advised motorists to expect potential slowdowns.
During the closure, DOTD reminded motorists "to please drive with caution and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment" in a statement crucial for conditionally maintaining the safety of both the workers and commuters alike. These temporary inconveniences are aimed at fostering an environment of greater safety for the future journeys that will traverse this stretch of road.
