Operation Not in Vain, the crime-fighting initiative launched by local enforcement agencies, has wrapped up its first successful week of action. According to the City of Las Cruces, the operation beginning April 28, has yielded 37 felony and 36 misdemeanor arrests, recovered three stolen vehicles, and seized 2.4 grams of methamphetamine.
In just a matter of days, this collaborative effort between police departments showed a promise to effectively tackle criminal activities. Las Cruces Police Department Chief Jeremy Story was quick to express his gratification, saying, "Our multi-agency team has hit the ground running and is seeing great success," as per the City of Las Cruces. He further explained that the operation surpasses the routine work officers typically engage in, demonstrating the magnitude of commitment and teamwork behind these results.
A significant moment in the campaign's first week occurred on May 1, during an intense surround and callout operation at a residence on Lyon Place. The action led to the apprehension of ten persons who had active warrants out for their arrest. Among those caught was 29-year-old George David Lessard, who was specifically wanted on four active felony warrants. The charges against Lessard are substantial and include various counts of larceny, burglary, and others, as stated by the City of Las Cruces.
