The Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department is presenting local teens with an opportunity to blend their love for the outdoors with their creative spirit. Dubbed 'Paint Your Path,' this summer program is designed for youth aged 13 to 17. It will feature a combination of scenic hiking excursions and outdoor painting activities in various trail locations around Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley, as detailed by the City of Las Cruces.
Starting on June 10, the program encourages participants to engage with the natural beauty of their surroundings. The initiative not only aims to foster the artistic talents of the young individuals but also to instill an appreciation for the local environment. Sessions are scheduled to run from 8-11 a.m. every Tuesday, with the first hike taking place at Tortugas Mountain via Turtle Trail. Other locations include Picacho Canyon Trail Loop, Ridge Line, and Discovery Trail, and several more across the region.
According to the City of Las Cruces, the cost is $24 per participant, which covers all necessary materials. Pre-registration can be done online under the Adult and Family Programs section, offering an easy access point for busy families.
In-person registration is available at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, ensuring alternatives for those who might not have internet access. The aforementioned fee accounts for the inclusion of all materials needed by young artists on their journey. With limited availability, eager teens and guardians are advised to secure their spots quickly. The program additionally reminds attendees to come prepared with proper hiking attire and to carry water and sun protection with them.
