Las Cruces teenagers can rejoice as the city rolls out an array of summer activities aimed at providing them with a wholesome blend of fun and camaraderie. The City of Las Cruces officially announced that, starting in June, a suite of programs will be available for both middle and high school students. These programs, ranging from sports nights to pool parties, are slated to run throughout June and July, with the intent to offer safe and engaging environments for local youth, as detailed by the City of Las Cruces.
Tuesdays and Thursdays will witness the "Open Gym Nights," a partnership with Las Cruces Public Schools, where teens can take to the court to shoot hoops and engage in various sports from 5 to 9 p.m. These events, at no cost to participants, are located at Sierra Middle School for middle schoolers and Lynn Middle School for the high school crowd, as reported by the City of Las Cruces. However, it’s worth noting that on June 19 and July 3, the gyms will remain silent, seeing no programming.
Wednesday nights are about to transform into bustling hubs of teenage activity with "Teen Hangout Nights." Featuring an array of activities from outdoor games to e-gaming and live DJ sessions, these nights are designed to become the heartbeat of teen social life. Add to this mix a National Guard climbing wall and obstacle course, and surely, the A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven will be the place to be from 5 to 9 p.m. According to the city's official communication, snacks and drinks are provided, ensuring that the young attendees stay refreshed and energized.
Meanwhile, "Summer Teen Takeover" takes over Fridays at Meerscheidt Recreation Center. Aspiring athletes and leisure-seekers should gear up for a range of structured activities that change weekly, from glow-in-the-dark pickleball to sand volleyball. Every event does require pre-registration, costing $1 per team, with a sign-up deadline one week before each event, as detailed in the City of Las Cruces' bulletin. After the competitive feats, open gym is available for free from 7 to 11 p.m., ushering a quiet close to the evening’s exuberance.
Additionally, splashes and laughs will merge on select Saturdays during the "Teen Splash Nights" at the Las Cruces Natatorium, which promise night swimming thrills from 7 to 10 p.m., at a minimal entry fee of $1. Specific dates for these events span early to late summer, ensuring ample opportunity for teens to partake in the cool, aquatic escape.
