Las Cruces Senior Recreation Program participants should brace for a temporary shake-up in their schedule as the Munson Center undergoes construction projects next week. According to the City of Las Cruces, several classes and activities are set to be either moved or cancelled from May 19 through May 22, due to closures of Studio 1 and Meeting Room 3 within the facility.
On May 19, the computer literacy class which usually finds its home in Studio 1, will now be nestled within the walls of Studio 4 for the day, unfortunately, aficionados of the vocal arts will miss out as karaoke has been scrapped for the day, and enthusiasts crafting through the stained glass open lab will have to suspend their creations until further notice.
The following day will see a relocation of the Dungeons and Dragons session to Meeting Room 2, while the silver jewelry and lapidary open labs face cancellation. As the days unfurl, the Desert Writers group will gather in Meeting Room 1 on May 21, and Canasta players will need to find alternative plans. Finally, on May 22, the Beading and Game Day events will both be held in Meeting Room 2.
Peace will return to the schedule post-Memorial Day, with all activities resuming their usual sequence from May 27, 2025. This interruption is seemingly a small price to pay for the improvement of facilities, and no other services provided by the Munson Senior Center will face disruptions during this period. Those in need of more information or seeking to quell their uncertainties have been directed to reach out to Chris Behrens, the Recreation Facility Manager, either by contacting the Munson Center front desk at 575-528-3000 /TTY 711, or by shooting an email to [email protected].
In a separate, more cheerful announcement, the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center is offering a bonding experience for parents and their tots with the 'Mommy and Me' classes, set to commence on May 29. More information on this wholesome addition to the community's calendar can be found on the city's website.
