Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers have been recognized for their courage during National Police Week in Washington, D.C. Officers Alfredo Ramirez and Cruz Littlefield were recipients of the TOP COPS Awards, acknowledging their response to a critical incident last year. According to a Facebook post from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the officers dealt with a hostile situation where a man threatened to kill his girlfriend while holding her hostage.
In June 2024, the officers were faced with a perilous task when they arrived at the scene to find the man armed and using his girlfriend as a human shield. With attempts to de-escalate failing and the suspect set to stab the victim, both officers found themselves needing to act quickly to prevent a tragedy. It was their swath through a window and use of deadly force that ultimately neutralized the threat and saved the woman's life, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department praised Ramirez and Littlefield for their bravery and quick actions, calling them true examples of what it means to "protect and serve." In June, they went above and beyond their duty, making fast decisions to help keep the public safe.
