A convicted Level 3 sex offender was arrested for trespassing at Merrimack College, where he was found peering into student dormitory windows in the early morning hours of May 2. According to Boston 25 News, Tyler Jacquard, a 39-year-old from Melrose, tried to deceive officers with stories ranging from claiming he was a student to saying he lived nearby or was visiting a friend.

Jacquard's vehicle, parked with downed windows, was discovered with its second and third-row seats removed, and his cell phone left on the passenger seat. Merrimack College police promptly debunked his claims, finding that Jacquard had no legitimate reason for being on the campus. As reported by Boston.com, he was arraigned on misdemeanor trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.

In court, the track record of the accused was highlighted as a matter of concern. Alyssa Fournier, a prosecutor, underscored the gravity of the continual offenses. "There has been no court, district court, or superior court here in the Commonwealth that has been able to curb this defendant’s behavior that he admits to in his own words," Fournier conveyed to the court in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News. Indeed, Jacquard's brushes with the law, dating back to 2010 and involving incidents at various institutions like Endicott and Wellesley Colleges, evidences a history of similar crimes.

Despite numerous arrests, Jacquard has evaded enduring consequences, facing a mixture of dispositions and dismissals across his extensive criminal record. With the current charges, the prosecutor communicated a desire to see Jacquard off the streets for a more significant amount of time. Fournier highlighted the stark outlook for Jacquard, stating, "He also is facing the possibility of a sexually dangerous person petition where this person is now facing the possibility of one day to life as a sexually dangerous person," as told to Boston 25 News.

For now, Jacquard remains in custody, held on a $7,500 bail. Should he post bail, he will be subjected to house arrest and mandated to wear a GPS tracking device.
