After more than three decades of serving the Lexington area, Via Lago Cafe & Catering, a fixture of the local dining scene, will be dishing out its last meals at the end of this month. Owner Alan Jick announced the closure in a heartfelt Facebook post in the wee hours of yesterday, sharing that with their lease expiring, so too does the restaurant's tenure at its long-standing location.
"It is with fond memories and overwhelming appreciation that I must announce that Via Lago will be closing its doors at the end of May," wrote Jick in a statement that was shared by Via Lago Cafe & Catering. The post continued to express Jick's gratitude toward his customers, friends, and the dedicated staff that has been part of the eatery's journey over the last 37 years.
MassLive reports Via Lago started in 1988 and quickly became a staple establishment, known for its cafe-style bistro offerings during the day, including breakfast, sandwiches, soups, and daily specials. With 70 seats, it also transformed into a cozy spot for romantic dinners, boasting a selection of cocktails and other spirits in the evening.
Jick's post conveyed a sense of proud reflection on the impact that Via Lago has had on their community. "This crazy place have been my life's work, and I thank you for that," said Jick, acknowledging the customers' loyalty and the staff's diligent work, according to Via Lago Cafe & Catering. The independently-owned restaurant also carved out a reputation for its corporate and full-service catering ops.
Locals and fans of Via Lago will have until the end of May to visit and enjoy one last meal at the cherished venue. As Lexington residents prepare to bid farewell to a beloved culinary institution, Jick invites them to stop by and be personally thanked for their patronage, which supported Via Lago's impressive multigenerational run.
