In a letter, which became public through NBC Miami report, Suarez detailed that a responsible student brought the dangerous discovery to a trusted adult's attention. The response by the School Police was swift, securing the weapon without causing a disruption to the school’s activities. The principal highlighted, "The student is now subject to consequences as outlined in our Student Code of Conduct," and assured that the safety of students and staff is a "highest priority."

Adding to the alarming situation, CBS12 shared additional comments from Suarez, who spoke of the collaborative efforts between School Police and local law enforcement. The ongoing investigation aims to determine how the firearm ended up in the student's possession, and as Suarez stated, the district is prepared to "pursue criminal charges as appropriate."
