
The Long Beach Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred on Harding Street, which led to the death of a man early Thursday morning, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. Authorities were called to the 2000 block of East Harding Street near Cherry Avenue at approximately 5:15 a.m., where they discovered the victim with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite medical aid attempts, the Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the man deceased at the scene.
According to evidence noted by Hoodline, several shots appear to have quickly been fired, indicated by the presence of multiple evidence markers. The police have not disclosed the man's identity, delaying it until next of kin notifications. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old suspect, Garrett Remillard, was arrested after being found amidst a reported mental health crisis near 49th Street and Del Amo Boulevard.
Remillard has since made statements to police connecting himself to the homicide, leading to his subsequent arrest and booking into Long Beach Police Jail on suspicion of murder. As stated in the official Long Beach Government Police press release, his bail is currently set at $2 million. Additional details regarding the interaction between Remillard and the victim have been sparse, though it is confirmed that they were known to each other.
Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear and Kelsey Myers are currently leading the investigation to uncover the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting.
