According to information released by Jefferson Parish, the closure will span both lanes on the west side of the canal from Veterans Boulevard to Terminal Drive. The disruption, which begins at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, is part of the Bainbridge Avenue Improvements project intended to enhance the area's infrastructure.
Commuters be warned, this isn't a quick in-and-out operation. The work is scheduled to last until 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, weather permitting. During this period, sections of the road will be closed two blocks at a time, making way for installation of drainage structures, water lines, and pile driving operations. For those searching for an alternative route, two-way traffic will still be permitted on Bainbridge Avenue but only on the east side of the canal.
Residents and businesses in the area should plan their travels accordingly as the construction work is expected to cause considerable delays.
