Officials have reported the arrest of a man linked to a Southeast Shelby County shooting that took place on April 18. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office disclosed that, after responding to a shooting on East Shelby Drive near a Walgreens store, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound. Immediate aid was given to the wounded man, who was then transported to Regional One in non-critical condition, Action News 5 reports.
The investigation, led by the Sheriff's Office Violent Crime Unit (VCU), identified Adrian Woodard, 35, as the alleged shooter. According to WREG's coverage, Woodard is accused of shooting the victim following an altercation. A warrant for Woodard's arrest was issued, charging him with aggravated assault.
On May 2, Woodard was apprehended at his home in Olive Branch, Mississippi, by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, with assistance from the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, authorities have stated. Following his arrest, Woodard was booked into the DeSoto County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition, FOX13 Memphis details.
The Sheriff's Office has not yet released further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or any additional information regarding the victim's condition. However, "This investigation is ongoing," said the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in a statement obtained by Action News 5. The nature of the argument that led to the shooting, and whether Woodard has legal representation has not been disclosed at this time.
