A man has died following a shooting incident in Wood River, Illinois, after being airlifted to a St. Louis hospital. The Wood River Police Department disclosed that the shooting occurred yesterday night on the 200 block of E Ferguson Avenue, police and firefighters were dispatched following a call for urgent help around 10:14 p.m, as reported by KSDK.
According to First Alert 4, upon arrival, responders found a man who pointed them to another man, the victim, behind the building where the shooting took place, and it was later discovered that the man giving directions was also the shooter, he was taken into custody without incident, though the victim was transported to an Alton hospital and subsequently sent via air to the St. Louis facility where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The multi-agency response included personnel from East Alton, Bethalto, Hartford, Roxana, South Roxana, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office, as they worked to secure the scene. Advantage News indicated that the Illinois State Police assisted with crime scene processing as Wood River detectives took charge of the homicide investigation, this information was further corroborated by First Alert 4 which noted that the Madison County State’s Attorney's Office has been kept informed as inquiries persist.
