A man lost his life in Raleigh after a reported domestic dispute led to gunfire last Saturday night, according to the Memphis Police Department. Action News 5 reported that officers were called to the scene at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Kitty Drive near Fargo Road, where they found the man deceased.
Subsequently, one man was detained in connection with the incident, though the name of the individual has not been released by authorities. As indicated in FOX13 Memphis, this detention occurred after preliminary information pointed to domestic conflict as the catalyst for the shooting. The investigation into this matter remains active as police continue to search for answers.
Local residents were shaken by the event. "I pray that God put his hand in it and take control of it," said Charles Young in a statement obtained by WREG. Young recounted being at home with his wife when the commotion startled them, having seen the lights of first responders near their home.
Another neighborhood witness told WREG that he heard about two gunshots. Young, candidly discussing the opacity of private lives, said, "You don’t know what’s going on in nobody home." He continued to express hope for a reduction in violence, not just locally, but across Memphis at large. "Our city just needs help. The right kind of help," Young lamented.
As the investigation moves forward, police have yet to file charges against the man detained on that somber night. Meanwhile, Memphis Police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as they piece together the circumstances that led to this tragedy.
