A tragic close to a SWAT standoff near Oak Hills High School in Green Township unfolded late Tuesday, as a man involved in the tense situation was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Local 12 reported that the ordeal led to the closure of Ebenezer Road for hours while emergency teams, including the Hamilton County SWAT, responded to the home of a reportedly suicidal individual violating a protection order.
The incident began around 5 p.m. and culminated in officers finding the suspect within the residence. "SWAT was requested to negotiate with the person," Captain Mitch Hill explained, as detailed in a statement obtained by WCPO. Nearby, Oak Hills High School took precautionary measures, canceling all post-school activities in response to the escalating police activity surrounding the 3100 block of Ebenezer Road.
During the standoff, residents witnessed the dramatic escalation of law enforcement tactics, including the use of flashbangs and chops breaking through barriers. "We've heard them getting ready to bust down a door while we're around the corner, and then we just came here. Since then, we've heard them throwing flashbangs, and we've seen smoke coming out," said John Boeh, a neighbor and current navy leave-taker, in an interview with Local 12. Jennifer Oberdine, another local resident, claimed to have heard noises that sounded like gunfire emanating from the home.
The Green Township Police Criminal Investigative Section has taken over the ongoing investigation into the incident. According to FOX19, Captain Hill confirmed the individual had access to firearms and had refused to exit his home, leading to the dispatch of the Hamilton County SWAT team. After protracted efforts to negotiate yielded no peaceful resolution, the team's entry into the house revealed the grim outcome of this confrontation.
