Earlier last week, Martel Da’Jour Mason, a 27-year-old man, was handed a 70-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to Robbery in the Second Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. According to Clackamas County, the sentencing comes after an incident where Mason robbed a man at gunpoint over a pair of Air Jordan 13 athletic shoes at an apartment complex near Clackamas Town Center on July 2, 2023. Mason reportedly threatened to, in a move to compel compliance, shoot his victim if he did not surrender the shoes.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Deputies were quickly on Mason's trail after the victim managed to flag one down and report the crime promptly. Authorities located Mason in proximity to the shopping mall and, after securing a search warrant for Mason's apartment, they were able to recover not just the stolen sneakers but also a problematic .38 Special revolver along with the clothes Mason was alleged to have worn during the robbery.
In addition to the robbery charge, Mason is facing grave charges in a separate ongoing case in Multnomah County Circuit Court, as mentioned by Deputy District Attorney Tiffany Escover, who prosecuted the Robbery case. Mason has an open case where he is charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree and multiple other offenses that stem from a December 25, 2023, vehicle crash resulting in a passenger's death.
