A jogger's morning run near Rice Lake in Maple Grove turned terrifying after an attempted sexual assault last January, authorities say. Early in the morning on January 30, 2025, a woman was reportedly attacked while jogging on the Medicine Lake Regional Trail underpass beneath I-94. According to the Maple Grove Police Department's social media post, the suspect grabbed her from behind and tackled her to the ground before she managed to fight him off and call for help.
In the aftermath of the incident, the suspect was not immediately found, setting a period of investigation into motion that lasted several months. During this period, Maple Grove detectives dug deep, following a thread of evidence to identify 31-year-old Jordan Janusz as the alleged assailant. The pieces of this disquieting puzzle led detectives to submit the case to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office for review.
Recently, Maple Grove police announced that Janusz, hailing from the same community where the assault took place, has been formally charged. On May 13, he was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, third-degree assault, threats of violence, and reckless disregard of risk. A day following the charges, Janusz was arrested at his home, not far from the location of the January attack, and has since been booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
The police have expressed gratitude for the community's support and the assistance received from their law enforcement partners. "The Maple Grove Police Department thanks the community for its support during this investigation, along with our law enforcement partners at the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Three Rivers Park District Police," the department mentioned in their post.
