A Mattapan man faced multiple charges after Boston Police officers witnessed him committing an assault and found him in possession of an illegal firearm. The incident unfolded yesterday, when officers assigned to District B-3 saw 39-year-old Anthony Hamilton of Mattapan engage in an indecent assault on Blue Hill Avenue, according to Boston Police Department's official website.

The officers were patrolling the area around 5:38 p.m. when they noticed Hamilton, who was wearing a fanny pack across his chest. They observed him grab a woman's buttocks as she walked by. The woman appeared, visibly shocked by the unsolicited contact. While approaching Hamilton to investigate, another individual approached the officers alleging his girlfriend had been similarly assaulted by Hamilton. As the officers attempted to detain him, Hamilton reportedly began to resist arrest violently; additional units were summoned to assist with the apprehension.

During the altercation, officers retrieved a fanny pack from Hamilton and found a firearm during a frisk. According to the Boston Police website, the weapon was a black Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number. The magazine was partially loaded with six 9mm rounds, and one more was chambered.

Despite Hamilton’s attempts to resist by kicking, and fighting, he was eventually secured in a patrol wagon and taken to District B-3. The police also recovered ammunition and charged the 39-year-old with several offenses including, indigent assault and battery on a person 14 or older and resisting arrest. Hamilton is expected to face these charges at his arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
