Attention drivers in McDonald County: Slinkard Road will be inaccessible at Route 90, just east of Jane, for three days, starting Monday and continuing through Wednesday next week. This closure facilitates a critical phase in the project to overhaul the Route 90 bridge over Little Sugar Creek. Hartman & Company Inc., out of Springfield, has been contracted to execute the work, which includes removing existing pavement, installing pipe, and laying down base rock in preparation for the new two-lane bridge infrastructure, according to the MoDOT.
As Slinkard Road shuts down at its junction with Route 90, there will be no posted detour for this closure, so drivers are encouraged to plan alternative paths. Nonetheless, those driving along Route 90 won't be left without guidance – there's a designated detour routing through McDonald County Route K, Business 71, County Route H, and I-49. Road signs and message boards will stand sentinel, cautioning travelers as they draw near the construction site.
MoDOT advises drivers to monitor its Traveler Information Map for potential updates, as weather conditions or scheduling conflicts may affect the project timeline.
The reconstruction of the bridge is part of a broader ambition to enhance safety and transit flow across Little Sugar Creek. With a budget set at $2.3 million, the upgrades include not just a new two-lane bridge, but also the installation of updated guardrails, fresh barrier walls, and the application of permanent road striping. If the schedule holds, the entirety of the task should reach completion by December 1.
