Miami-Dade County is set to enhance its facilities for individuals living with paralysis, thanks to a generous grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. The county's People and Internal Operations Department (PIOD) received $24,837 from the Foundation's National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC) as a part of their 2024 Direct Effect 2nd Cycle, adding to the over $1 million distributed in this round of Quality of Life Grants. These grants are specifically designed, to support non-profit organizations that empower people affected by paralysis.

In a statement obtained by Miami-Dade County News, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava expressed gratitude: "We are deeply honored to receive this grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center. This vital funding will directly support efforts to break down barriers, expand access, and create a more inclusive community where individuals living with paralysis can thrive and lead empowered lives." The funds will be put toward accessibility equipment such as an accessible stage ramp, portable access mats, an accessible podium, and a wireless microphone system, which will be used in public events and meetings, especially at the Government Center and other County-managed facilities.

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, through a cooperative agreement with the Administration for Community Living, has a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of those living with paralysis. Their NPRC has been instrumental in providing comprehensive resources and referral services, assisting over 100,000 individuals and families since 2002. Restoring independence and enhancing quality of life remain the vision as they continue to award grants that help organizations implement programs fostering accessibility and inclusivity.

Directed by Dan McNeal, the Quality of Life Grants Program at the Reeve Foundation has a strategic focus on funding a variety of projects that have a significant impact on the paralysis community. “Our work and number one goal are to enhance the quality of life of people living with paralysis. It is our honor to continue to collaborate with so many dedicated organizations, which have selflessly given their time and efforts to ensure that accessibility and inclusivity remain embedded in the fabric of their programs.” McNeal said, according to a recent release
