In a domestic dispute that escalated into a police matter, Cuban-American telenovela actor Pedro Moreno has been arrested on charges stemming from an altercation involving his wife, at their southwest Miami-Dade home. Local 10 News reported that the 44-year-old actor was taken into custody yesterday, around 4 a.m.
The arrest report, as detailed by the news outlet, states the situation unfolded late Wednesday night, as Moreno and his wife, who are in the process of divorcing after a 17-year marriage, argued over "marital issues." Moreno was accused of forcibly taking his wife's cellphone during the confrontation, leading to a charge of strong-armed robbery. The incident, which the couple's eldest daughter witnessed, did not result in any physical injuries to Moreno's wife.
Following the incident, Moreno's wife utilized her daughter's phone to contact authorities. The device in question, valued at around $250, was eventually returned, according to the statement obtained by Local 10 News.
Further details from NBC Miami reveal that during a bond court appearance yesterday, Moreno's wife addressed the judge via Zoom. She described the altercation as "a one-time thing," expressing a desire for dismissal of the case. "My husband and I do not argue in front of our children; if anything, we keep everything private," she elaborated. Despite the event, she claimed, "He's been a great husband, a great dad, and it got a little out of hand."
The judge ultimately modified the charge against Moreno to battery and set a bond at $1,000, issuing a modified stay-away order that allows non-violent contact. Moreno, known for his roles in prominent telenovelas like "El Rostro de Analía" and "Me declaro cupable," remains a familiar figure within Hispanic television audiences since his departure from Havana to pursue his acting career.
