Early this morning, Miami residents woke to the sight of smoke as a massive fire engulfed an abandoned warehouse in the area of Northeast Second Avenue and Northeast 78th Street, the dense clouds of smoke disrupting visibility and raising immediate concerns among local commuters and those with respiratory issues, officials urged the latter to stay indoors, WSVN reported.
The warehouse, previously identified as Little River Building and Home Supply, became the center of a significant firefighting operation with Miami Fire Rescue deploying a defensive fire attack strategy to combat the extreme conditions within, as aerial footage captured by 7News' Drone Force showed the heavy smoke and flames causing the building’s roof to collapse, according to CBS News Miami.
Fire crews were seen employing the force of two engines in an attempt to contain and extinguish the fire, with the incident leading to the closure of both 77th Street and 72nd Avenue to facilitate emergency response efforts, WSVN noted.
At the time of reporting, there had been no injuries reported and the fire had not yet spread to neighboring structures, however, officials remained cautious, advising drivers to avoid the area and proceeding with caution as the fire continued to rage and crews worked to bring the situation under control, as of yet, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and further investigations are ongoing, CBS News Miami further informed.
