The Miami Gardens community has been enveloped in sorrow following the tragic deaths of a local couple, Rhonda Spencer, 65, and Timothy Fordham, 59, after a blaze engulfed their home earlier this month. According to Local 10 News, the couple's loved ones gathered for a vigil yesterday, not only to mourn but also to dispel rumors suggesting potential foul play involving the couple's nephew, Tamonjan Williams, who narrowly escaped the deadly fire.
Detectives are delving into the murky details surrounding the deaths last Wednesday, May 7, while the family simultaneously navigates their unfathomable loss. A chilling recount by Jamie Spencer reveals the immediate aftermath: "The thought of losing them in the middle of the night, unexpectedly in such a horrible way," a sentiment that was shared with Local 10 News. At the home along Northwest 185 Terrace, where the fire ravaged the property, an explosion, Tamonjan Williams woke up to that it was nothing short of divine intervention when he said, “The ceiling inside the bedroom was on top of me. I started calling for them ... I couldn’t get out the door ... God pulled the door open and then I went out.”
The mourning family also convened to remember Rhonda Spencer, in particular, during an emotional memorial service. WSVN reported that her sister Jamie expressed, "We just know that she was taken from us too soon," and her niece Sierra added, "Just her smile, her kindness." The family gathered around the remnants of the Spencer-Fordham residence, bringing with them flowers, posters, and balloons in Rhonda's favorite colors.
As the investigation continues with Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers urging the public to come forward with any pertinent information, meanwhile, the family grapples with unanswered questions and the aching void of not knowing. "Just not knowing, still not knowing just yet what happened doesn’t make it better," Jamie told WSVN, "It makes it worse." During the vigil, as they navigated this period of grief, Jamie made it clear that there was an eagerness to clear any suspicions surrounding Williams: "We wanted to speak today to clear any false rumors, any speculations, that our nephew was involved."
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Department has not yet confirmed the cause of death for Spencer or her husband at the time of publishing. Any individuals with information about the incident are encouraged by detectives to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to assist in uncovering the circumstances behind the tragic incident while maintaining anonymity.
