A gas leak scare at Miami Lakes Middle School resulted in a brief evacuation of students and faculty this morning. According to CBS News Miami, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene at 6425 Miami Lakeway North upon receiving reports of a pervasive gas odor. By the time the rescue crew arrived, the school had already initiated an evacuation.
With students and staff waiting in a safe area, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, along with representatives from Florida Gas, conducted an investigation to determine the cause. During the investigation, schools officials were moved children away from the potential danger, ensuring their safety. WSVN reported that no injuries occurred amidst the commotion.
The incident began unfolding around 8:45 a.m., leading to an hour-long disruption of the school day. Fire officials systematically examined the reported gas leak, securing the vicinity around the school located on the 6400 block of Miami Lakeway Drive.
Reassurance came when the all-clear was given by officials, allowing both students and staff to return to normality and their classrooms. "After investigating officials gave the all clear and everyone was allowed back inside the building," WSVN added to their coverage. The cause of the odor that precipitated the evacuation remains undisclosed, as further details have yet to emerge.
