Five men from Miami are facing charges related to a 2023 deadly hit-and-run in Sarasota that claimed the life of a young motorcyclist. This group was involved in a scheme to steal catalytic converters when the incident occurred. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports that the accused include Antonio Carbonell, 38; Allen Hunt, 29; Samuel Rosemond, 22; Micheal Trillo, 22, and Edwin Norris, 31, with Norris facing additional charges of felony murder and 22 counts of traveling to commit a burglary, according to NBC Miami.
In what unfolded as a tragic chain of events in April 2023, deputies disclosed that after stealing 22 catalytic converters valued at an estimated $94,000, from vehicles at a Sarasota business, the suspects attempted to flee in an Audi, and in the frantic escape, they struck 21-year-old motorcyclist Leonardo Adams after running a red light and did not render aid, leaving him to be found later on the shoulder of I-75 near Fruitville Road, and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Per the investigation, Norris was the driver of the Audi, accompanied by Hunt, Trillo, and Rosemond, while Carbonell was the driver of a secondary vehicle. The three, Carbonell, Norris, and Rosemond, are being held without bond at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, as detailed by a WSVN report.
On the legal front, Hunt and Trillo find themselves in Miami-Dade County, with Trillo also facing an attempt to murder charge for a separate 2023 incident, Hunt and Trillo are slated for extradition to Sarasota to face their charges in connection with the hit-and-run.
