Chaos erupted at a Miami grocery store when a security guard was attacked with a machete by a suspected shoplifter, leading to multiple injuries and an arrest yesterday morning. According to CBS News Miami, the incident occurred at the Sedano's Supermarket located on West Flagler Street in Little Havana, where 38-year-old Yuris Jimenez-Linares allegedly lashed out after being confronted for stealing a chain from the store.
The confrontation began when the store manager encountered Jimenez-Linares in the back of Sedano's during a theft attempt, resulting in the manager being punched and knocked to the ground, the arrest documents reported by Local 10 News detailed this sequence of events. In the ensuing altercation, a security guard stepping in to assist was subsequently slashed on the shoulder with a machete, and, after the guard was injured, two witnesses chased the suspect toward a Truist Bank where a group of about five good Samaritans eventually detained him.
Miami Police arrived at the scene around 10:20 a.m., finding Jimenez-Linares held by the small crowd, and they took him into custody charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and battery, meanwhile, the wounded security guard was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, as detailed by CBS News Miami.
