A harrowing incident in Midvale, Utah, unfolded where a man, Taylor Don Hooiman, was charged with severe crimes after an apparent attempt on his sister's life, as per reports from multiple sources. Hooiman, 33, is now facing the Utah justice system with first-degree felony charges for attempted murder and aggravated burglary. According to ABC4, the assault was said to be premeditated, with Hooiman having allegedly expressed his intention to "solve the problem" by killing his sister.
On the night of the incident, documents stated by both KSL and FOX 13 describe Hooiman scaling the side of an apartment building to reach his sister's balcony. Attempting entry, he met resistance, as his sister reportedly tried to keep the sliding glass door shut. Eventually breaking the barrier, Hooiman allegedly used a knife to inflict multiple lacerations to his sister's hands and caused superficial wounds to her chest before ceasing his attack. Arrested soon after, the burglar was laughing when the police took him into custody, adding a surreal layer to the chilling scene.
Officials confirmed there were children present during the attack, further complicating the horrifying sequence of events. Taylor then began to stab (his sister) in the chest, which caused superficial knife tip wounds to her chest. However, Taylor verbalized that he couldn't go through with it, as detailed by KSL. As reported by police, the woman managed to flee the apartment with her children shortly before authorities arrived. At the time of arrest, Hooiman was found inside the apartment.
